The mission of the Student Association for Social Work is to promote awareness of the Social Work field, academic achievement, understanding, and opportunity for professional and personal growth.
The SASW provides a forum through which Social Work majors can interact, exchange ideas, and participate in campus and community service projects. Organizational members work closely with faculty members of the ASU Social Work department and other professionals in the Social Work field to facilitate greater understanding of social work.
This club is open to any ASU student who would like to explore this unique and challenging field. Events are held throughout the year which allow for social interaction and fun!
Service Projects:
Spring 2016: During the Spring 2016 semester, SASW raised funds and collected items for the Children's Advocacy Center, a nonprofit organization that serves the needs of sexually and physically abused children by streamlining child abuse cases, prosecuting offenders, and providing treatment for the affected children. Funds were raised through benefit nights at local restaurants, bake sales, raffles, a cookout, and a campus-wide dodgeball competition! By the end of the semester, SASW had raised over $500 for the CAC!
Fall 2015: During the Fall 2015 semester, SASW raised funds for The Children's Playhouse, a non-profit children's museum in Boone, N.C. Funds were raised through benefit nights at local restaurants, Halloween-grams, Krispy-Kreme fundraising, and a bake sale! The members of SASW were able to raise $325, which will pay for three scholarship memberships for low-income families.
Spring 2015: In the Spring Semester of 2015, SASW collected headphones and earbuds for Watauga County school children as a part of the Quiet Givers' Back to School Program. Headphones are an often-overlooked school supply. They are required for educational activities on tablets and computers. Over 500 pairs of headphones were collected!
Fall 2014: In the Fall Semester of 2014, SASW assisted the Boone Professional Fire Fighters Association in holding a coat drive called 'Operation Warm: Coats 4 Kids." More than 600 coats were donated and given to children from Hospitality House, Watauga County Children’s Council, Western Youth Network and the Oasis School Social Program.
